The school that I interviewed at a few weeks ago actually called me back.  However, it was to tell me that they went with someone else for the job.  I was shocked they called at all.  I think this was the very first time ever a school called out of courtesy to let me know they gave someone else the job.  While it was disappointing (especially after I saw the phone 3 on my phone and got excited), it was nice to be treated with respect.  More districts should do this.

Am I the only one who gets upset when no one calls you after an interview?  Don't these people remember what it was like looking for a job and stressing out over interviews?  They always say "we'll call you" after the interview is over, but they never do.  How hard would it be for them to make a 10 second phone call saying thank you for coming, but we went with someone else?  It's common courtesy.  At least then you could ask what they were looking for and what you could do to be a better candidate next time.  Instead, it's the cold shoulder, and you're left wondering what you could have done better.

Read this and those of you (including myself) having a hard time finding a teaching job my just want to vomit:

If there are soooo many teaching vacancies, how come soooo many of us are still without full time work?  Whoever wrote that piece of drivel should answer that for me.

Well, my job search continues.  To be quite honest, OLAS sucks.  I don't know anyone who ever actually got an interview solely from using OLAS.  I don't even know the purpose of it.  Is it just for jobs that aren't really there?  Do these schools just want to see how many applicants they will get, just as a cruel game?  I actually did get an interview to a job posted on OLAS once, but I'm sure it was because I also sent a paper resume to the school.  I still send paper resumes to schools when I see a job on OLAS to this day, unless it specifically says not to.  I don't want to be accused of not following instructions.  Anyone out there getting any interviews?

Just wondering if anyone out there is working summer school this year...as a teacher or a sub.  What kind of experiences are you having?  I had hoped to at least sub, but it's 3 weeks in to summer school, and no calls yet.  We'll see...it is nice having the summer off, but it would be nicer with some pocket change to spend.

Hi, and welcome to my blog.  Hopefully, there will be many more entries to this blog in the near future, and hopefully, you come with me on my journey as a substitute teacher.  I want you to share your thoughts with me and all of us in the forums on my home page, but I'll do my talking here and leave the forums for who it was created for-all of the subs out there who love what they do, but feel like they are all alone in their struggles as subs.  I have been subbing for 5 years.  Five long years.  Do I love teaching?  Hell yes I do.  I would never want to give it up.  At the same time, I have been looking for a full time teaching job, and even though Pres. Obama keeps coming on TV saying, "we need new teachers," I can't for the life of me figure out where he is talking about.  I'm sure most of you know there are no jobs out there.  I live in NY, and there are more teachers being laid off than there are new jobs.  How are we, as subs, supposed to compete for jobs against people with far more experience who were just laid off?  I heard recently that when a district posts a job, they get between 200-2000 applicants!  How can any of us compete and stand out?  I actually had an interview the other day (my first interview in over months).  There were 2 other applicants there.  I was sure I nailed it, and of course, the interviewers said they would call me as I walked out.  It's been 4 days...still no call.  What a shock.  I wonder if either of the other 2 people got a call.  Is it wrong that I hope they did not?  Well, that's what we've been brought to...hoping someone else doesn't get a job so that we can I guess.  Anyway, I'll leave it at that for now.  Still about 7 weeks until the new school year starts (actually, make it 11 weeks if I am still a permanent sub this year...but they don't tell us until the end of August).  Talk to me.....what's going on with you?
